How to protect cars parked on the street?

in

My husband and I have to park on the street at our apartment, and our cars are easy targets for the "punk@$$ kids" in the neighborhood. My car has been egged and shot with paintballs in the past. Now his car has been keyed! What can we do to keep this kind of stuff from happening? There's nowhere else to park, and we can't afford to move yet...
NO, we aren't pissing anyone off. It's just not the best neighborhood.

Answer:
Park in a well lite area , under a street light if possible , you can buy overnight parking lights that run off a small battery not the car battery , they fit inside the front or rear windows or onto the side of the windows that are road side .

How to get someone to stop texting while driving?

in

My sister loves to text while drive. Me and my parents are deeply concerned and we want her to stop. We've told her so many times, she's gotten tickets and many warnings for it, and she does it even with her kids in the back seat.
It's very irritating because she's 34 and she's old enough to be responsible but she doesn't budge. She acts stubborn and she never really wants to hear what we have to say about it.

Is there anything certain I can say or do something to get her to stop before something happens?

Answer:
My sister does the exact same thing only she is much younger. For example, yesterday I received a text message from her and literally 5 seconds later she pulled up. So it was very obvious that she was texting while driving but she never admits to it. It's really sad and I feel sorry for you and your parents. You can pull up some stories of tragic things that have happened while people were texting and driving, maybe some pictures too, but a lot of times with people like that, they don't make changes until something devastating happens.

How to get fiber glass out of my fingers?

in

I was working on cars and I touched this 72' corvet that was made out of fiberglass and I got some in my fingers. It won't come out, I can't see it so I cant take it out with tweezers. It hurts so bad, I tried scrubbing my hands with cold soapy water, I tried putting tape on my fingers to get it out, nothing has worked. Help?

Answer:
Ow! I worked with fiberglass for a few years repairing the body on my Lotus. The fibers get to the point that tape won't remove them because the fibers have broken off so short. For future reference, never rub them with anything because more of them will break off flush than will come out. You can try the last resort - spread white glue (like Elmer's glue) on the areas and let it dry thoroughly (an hour or so) and peel that off. The glue gets right down to the skin so if anything is sticking out it will grab it. Can't hurt, might help. On the brighter side, some of the pain may be from fibers that have already come out and you just have the leftover damage that will heal in a day or so. In any case the pain will fade as the flesh withdraws from the fibers - a few days, maybe a week - and the fibers will eventually be pushed out. The same thing happens with splinters. I got a bunch way under a fingernail when I was a kid and after a week I could barely feel them. A couple months later I pulled the skin back under my nail and they all fell out.

How to remove a truck from a river that is leaking petroleum?

in

This is for a chemistry assignment where a truck has failed to turn a corner and landed into a river and is now leaking oil. Any suggestions on how to remove the truck safely from the water and minimise oil spillage?

Answer:
Seal the leak with Henry's roof tar specially formulated for wet applications (not regular Henry's roof tar). If the leak is too large to plug with tar, plug it with material (wood, metal, plastic, etc., then use wet application roof tar. Keep the leak as high as possible (relative to the rest of the petroleum in the tank), to minimize pressure at the leak site. Float a barrier (perhaps floating wood or plastic) around the truck, which blocks oil floating on the surface (this oil can be captured).

How to know if car battery is low before it runs out of battery?

in

How can I be notified/aware if my car battery is low before it stops working?

Model: Nissan - Tiida
It's been four years since I had my car, but last year it stopped working due to low battery. I guess, taking my car for service every month is worth it, thanks for all your feedbacks!

Answer:
2 to 4 years is the average, depending on the battery. These days it seems there is no warning, everything is fine until the battery fails completely. Sometimes you will hear the starter slow down, but not always.

How to stop my daughter car seat sliding on our leather car seats?

in

Our seats in our car are leather and my daughter new forward facing car seat slides on it. No matter how tight we pull the belt, it will still slide. We have put it in properly!
Is there anything we can buy to grip the seat to the chair? and where can we get it from?

Thanks

Answer:
The rubber mat idea sounds good but could damage the leather but instead try using a small piece of rug and you can get the same color of the leather at home improvement centers and rug stores for nothing..
