How to get the train from Trastevere railway station to Fiumicino airport and how long is the journey?

in

We leave Rome tomorrow afternoon after a lovely break and are thinking of getting tram 8 to trastevere station then getting a train to Fiumicino airport. Is the train station easy to find once off the tram? Where and how do we purchase the ticket for the train? How do we know which train to board? Are they reliable and not too overpacked at around 2pm? Any advice will be appreciated :-)

Answer:
The train station is huge, so you can't miss it when you get off the tram. There's a direct train on the commuter line FM5. Journey time is about 45 minutes - although allow yourself longer since there are often delays on this line. There are supposed to be 4 trains an hour. You can buy your train ticket at the window or from the machine at the station. If you have access to a printer, you can get a ticket online at http://www.trenitalia.com/trenitalia.html. The train you want terminates at the airport, so just look for Aeroporto Fiumicino on the various TV screens to see which platform you need. The trains only get crowded during the morning and evening rush hours. Around midday, you'll probably have the train to yourself. The carriages are double-decked with a single-deck area with sideways on seats at one end of each carriage. There is nowhere to put large items of luggage, so if you've got a lot, I suggest going for the sideways-on bit where there's plenty of room. There's a toilet, usually at the end of the train furthest from the airport. When you get to the airport, there are signs directing you to the various terminals via a series of overhead walkways. It's actually quicker to come out of the station and go straight to the terminal at ground level - but I'd only recommend that if you know your way around.

How to find cheap hotel in Rome close to public station to get to UN WFP office in Rome, Italy?

in

I am planning to participate in the training and have never been to Rome. How to find cheap hotel close to public stations and not in the area of WFP as it is in suburbs and I want to make some tourist visiting as well. thanks.

Answer:
You can walk almost anywhere...the area immediately around Termini train station is a bit rough, so I'd recommend anything west of Barberini station. But real cheap will be near the train station so it depends on what you want. Check out the hotels and reviews at Kayak.com
