How to wire up a home Audio Visual distribution network?

How to wire up a home Audio Visual distribution network?
I am interested in setting up a home AV network so that I can access my satellite tv as well as DAB radio from selected rooms within my house. I have my own ideas but would like someone with experience to explain the best way of doing this and the components i will need. I am an electrician so i'll be installing all cables myself.

Many Thanks

Its kind of a good idea to know what system your interested in so you run the right cables, different system will have slightly different requirements. But generally all homes should be run with all telephone, data, cable, and satellite from the D-mark (input to the home) to a structured wiring panel within the home (generally is in the master bedroom closets). and from there is distributed though out the home home run to each room. As far as audio video distribution the starting point is typically a central location within the home, that has easy access, to change or add software (dvd, blu ray, cd's) or what ever source you want to play. This is typically next to or in the main video viewing area, great room, home theater room, were ever its easy to access in the home. All cables are then routed to the rooms you want sound or video, and all D-mark cables (phone, data, cable) are routed to this location as well. As for what system to use, that is the thing to research which system best suits your needs, and then this will help you rout the right cables for the system. The more complex the system the more complex the wiring configuration. Crestron, AMX have specific cables they like for their systems. Very expensive and complex programming is needed for these systems but its limitless what they can do. Elan, Control 4, and others are simpler and can be run with more generic cables. How the cables are run also makes a difference, and flex conduit is always a nice option as this allows you to pull additional cables as needed. Kevin 40 year high end audio video specialist

The sound system would need to have either optical INPUT or RCA (red & white cable) INPUT. The TV would also need either optical or RCA OUTPUT.
